As a parallel study to the study of the feasibilty of relocating the existing Crawley Hospital . Fleet undertook a desktop study of the potential to redevelop the site for housing and supporting community uses. The proposals considered and proposed were:
- A balance of pedestrian permeability and primary vehicular access
- Semi-detached housing crust to mirror existing vernacular
- Increased scale to centre of site and ‘gateways’
- 60% - 40% two bedrooms flats to single bedroom flats
- Amenity ‘Anchor’ building with leisure and primary care functions
- Lifts in buildings over 5 storeys
- Ecology points maximised
- Rainwater harvesting
- Green amenity spaces
- Balconies to all flats
- Public transport connections enhanced
- Streetscape as ‘HomeZone’
- 70% car parking per dwelling
- Target Code for Sustainable Homes evaluated
