Brown Thomas is part of the Selfridges Group and is reputedly Ireland’s premiere department store. As part of an ongoing store improvement programme, Brown Thomas invited Fleet to redesign their 3rd floor café area.

The current café has proved to be very successful. However, it is tired and cluttered with many mis-matched items of café equipment that are now synonymous with modern café culture. Fleet were tasked with designing a new restaurant on a very tight budget which captured a fine dining ‘white table cloth’ atmosphere and greatly improved on the existing chaotic department store drop in.

The Fleet strategy, besides organisation, proposed openning the previously obscured windows and taking the floor material, a dark fumigated oak wood block, up the walls to create a datum with the banquette seating.
