City Hotel, Brick Lane

Client: City and Guards Group

Location: Tower Hamlets

Area: 10,000 sqm

Value: £6 million

Procurement: Traditional

Fleet undertook a root and branch review of two existing hotels in the City and Guards Group’s estate. This example was the 1970s slab block hotel, City Hotel, overlooking bustling Brick Lane.

The proposals included reconfiguring the dinning facilities, club offers, staff outfits, brand identity and the phased refurbishment of every bedroom to appeal to a wider range of travellers. Feet also highlighted opportunities to enlarge the hotel in the future.

At ground floor an open plan lobby with a landscape of various bars and dining spaces would be created while in the basement a range different size conference and bookable suite were proposed.

Since undertaking the project the Group changed hands and the scheme was not taken beyond RIBA POW 3.
