Feasibility – East Cornwall Place of Safety

Client: Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust

Location: Bodmin, Cornwall

Area: 250sqm

Value: circa £900,000

Procurement: Traditional (PFI Variation)

Following on from previous projects with the Cornwall Partnership Trust and previous experiences designing Section 136 Place of Safety Assessment Suites we were invited to undertake a review of the development of a newly commissioned assessment site with the Bodmin Community Hospital site.  The county had originally made sole use of the facilities at Longreach House, Redruth, the far west of the county.  At times cross county border services were being used by eastern and northern Cornish services.

Working very closely with a multi department client and multi-agency team fleet proposed the creation of 2 new suites within refurbished space in the hospital site.

The new suites provide secure rooms with en-suite washing facilities.  The rooms are afforded protected views over secure courtyards flanked by margins of planting which improve the aspect in the winter of summer alike.

The project is currently ongoing, at RIBA stage 2, updates will be published here.
